Tight Penile Foreskin (Phimosis) Surgery

Phimosis is a condition in which the foreskin of the penis becomes too tight and cannot be pulled back properly over the head (glans) of the penis. This condition may occur in children as a normal developmental phase or develop later in adults due to infections, poor hygiene, inflammation, or skin disorders. If left untreated, phimosis can cause pain, difficulty in urination, repeated infections, and discomfort during sexual activity.

While mild cases may improve with conservative treatment, severe or persistent phimosis often requires surgical correction. Modern laser and stapler circumcision techniques offer safe, minimally invasive, and effective treatment with faster healing and minimal discomfort.

Types & Causes of Phimosis

Phimosis is generally classified into two types:
  • Physiological Phimosis: Common in infants and young children and usually resolves naturally with age
  • Pathological Phimosis: Occurs due to repeated infections, poor hygiene, skin disorders, inflammation, or conditions such as Balanitis Xerotica Obliterans (BXO)

Common Symptoms

  • Difficulty retracting the foreskin
  • Redness, swelling, or inflammation around the foreskin
  • Pain during urination or burning sensation
  • Pain during erection or sexual activity
  • Repeated infections or foul-smelling discharge
  • Ballooning of foreskin while urinating

Treatment Options

  • Conservative Treatment: Mild cases may improve with steroid creams, medicated ointments, hygiene care, and gentle stretching exercises
  • Surgical Treatment: Persistent or severe cases may require circumcision or minimally invasive corrective procedures
Advanced surgical options include:
  • Laser Circumcision: Minimally invasive laser procedure with less bleeding and faster recovery
  • Stapler Circumcision: Modern technique offering precision, minimal pain, and cosmetic healing
  • Conventional Circumcision: Traditional surgical removal of the tight foreskin
